Basketball Returns Home Saturday to Face MTSU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s basketball team looks to rebound from a hard-fought, double-overtime loss to the leader of Conference USA when they return home Saturday to face second-place Middle Tennessee in a 7 p.m., contest at Reed Green Coliseum.

The Golden Eagles (7-15 overall, 4-7 C-USA) saw a two-game home winning streak snapped, Thursday, as they dropped an 80-77 decision to first-place UAB in the team’s first overtime contest since Feb. 12 of last year.

Southern Miss tallied a season-best 16 three-pointers in the contest and got 14 points and 12 assists from Khari Price for his third double-double of the season, while graduate transfer Kourtlin Jackson tallied a game-high 21 points.

Now, Southern Miss has to regroup to take on the league’s second-best team, Middle Tennessee. Despite a 73-63 setback at Louisiana Tech in Ruston on Thursday, the Blue Raiders come to Hattiesburg with a 17-7 overall record and are 9-3 in league play.

Jackson, who snapped a streak of two games without collecting double-figure points, holds the team lead in scoring average at 12.0 points per game. Price ranks next at 10.4, while Raheem Watts averages 7.6 points per contest.

The Blue Raiders, which hold a series advantage over the Golden Eagles 4-1, sports four players scoring in double figures. Giddy Potts holds the top scoring spot for Middle Tennessee at 14.8 points per tilt, while Darnell Harris and Reggie Upshaw are next at 13.0 with Perrin Bufford contributing 11.4 points per contest.

Following the Middle Tennessee affair, the Golden Eagles return to the road next Thursday, at UTEP. The contest starts at 8:05 p.m., CT.
