Former Eagle shot, killed in Chicago

Former Southern Miss standout basketball player Jonathan Mills was shot and killed in Chicago on Monday afternoon.

Former Southern Miss assistant head coach Steve Barnes confirmed the news to BigGoldNation.com shortly before CBS Channel 2 in Chicago reported the story.

According to Chicago Police Department officials Mills was shot multiple times in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt Street at approximately 1:27 PM on Monday afternoon.

Mills was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mills had most recently been playing for the Chicago Fury of the Midwest Basketball League after a suspension from Canadian Basketball League.

Former Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall expressed his dismay over Mills death on Social Media.

Mills played two seasons at Southern Miss after transferring from College of Eastern Utah.

A fan favorite for his hard work and toughness Mills averaged 9.3 ppg and 8.0 rpg as a senior.
